Who Is Roaming Robby?

About Me

Hey there! Thanks for wanting to learn a little more about me!
My name is Robby and I’m addicted to travel, photography, performing, and new experiences!

Artist

Way before I caught the travel bug, I fell in love with performing. I started doing musical theatre in high school, I went to college for theatre, and I’ve been a professional Atlanta based actor all of my adult life. I’m also a photographer. I specialize in headshots for actors as well as (obviously) travel photography. While those things were what fed my soul, I also had to make ends meet. So, like nearly all working artists, I had lots of side hustles – mostly in the food service industry. Long story short, in May of 2017, I quit my serving job because it was killing me softly. I also knew that I wanted to work in the arts every day. So I started on my path to my dream job. Today, I work as a freelance actor on camera and on stage as well as an arts administrator for a theatre I absolutely love.

Wanderer

The sole purpose of this website is to share with you all the ways in which you can make your dreams of traveling the world a reality, no matter what kind of budget you are working with.  I grew up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in a little town called Cleveland, Georgia. I come from a small family of limited means, so being frugal has always been a part of my life. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very lucky. But I say that only to illustrate that the challenge of traveling while staying within a budget is one that I really enjoy taking on.

As a child, my family would go to Panama City Beach, Florida or maybe Myrtle Beach, South Carolina each summer for a summer vacation. In high school, I traveled to New York City for the first time. My summer between high school in college, I took my first international trip to England. Then, in college, I went back abroad with my theatre department to France and Italy. After that, my traveling was pretty much limited to work trips and small vacations for nearly 10 years until last year when my friends and I took a leap of faith and spent 2 weeks in Ecuador. That trip re-ignited my passion for travel and adventure, and I’m excited to share what I’ve learned.

Lover of Adventure

While I may have taken a much too long break from traveling, I still found ways to satisfy my need for adventure. One summer, right after college I took some theme park work in upstate New York at Six Flags: The Great Escape. We did 36 shows a week. It was an exhausting summer, but one that I look back on with fondness. Across the walkway from our venue was a high dive show. The 30 minute show consisted of comedy, trampoline acrobatics, synchronized diving, and the grand finale where one of the divers would climb to the top of a 90 ft. tower and perform a high dive. Since we’d see each other’s shows all every day, I quickly became friends with the team of divers and would hang out with them at their campsite every night after the park closed.

When our contract was over we stayed in touch and after my 9 month internship with Florida Repertory Theatre, they called and asked if I’d like to go on tour with them the following summer. Of course I jumped on the opportunity. With Brown Entertainment, I’ve been able to work in multiple states at various fairs and parks across the country. While my job is to MC the show and facilitate the comedy, I’ve also been able to pick up some fun new skills like fire poi, fire staff, and a little bit of fire eating. I’m not much of an athlete though, so I don’t expect to see me diving anytime soon, but of course I did lose a bet once upon a time and had to jump off the 10 meter platform.

Pitbull Dad

This is totally unrelated to this website, but I’m gonna tell you this about me anyway. I’ve always been a huge animal lover. In fact, I grew up with pets my whole life. My absolute favorite breed of dogs is the pitbull. They have the awesome personalities, they’re insanely loyal, and they have the best most goofy smiles. In late June of 2018, right before I closed on my house, I went to the local Animal Shelter to kill time before rehearsal for a production of Disney’s Newsies. As it turns out, it was free adoption weekend that weekend. There were probably a hundred families there looking for the perfect pet. It didn’t take me long to find this beautiful tan pitbull in one of the kennels. He wasn’t barking like all the other dogs, and he just looked at me like, “hey man, don’t ya want to get me out of here for a minute?”.

So I asked to meet him. They told me to wait outside in one of the fenced off areas and they’d bring him out to me. He was exactly what I didn’t know I was looking for. He was friendly, he was clearly house trained, and he had a lot of personality. So the next day, I went back to the Animal Shelter, picked up my new pal, and headed to rehearsal. Obviously, taking a brand new dog to a theatre full of strangers isn’t ideal, but he was definitely the coolest kid in school and everyone loved him immediately. When rehearsal was over and we got home, he climbed right up on the couch, looked at me and he knew he was home.
